Three Univ students are in the running to play in this year’s Varsity matches on Saturday 25 March at Twickenham Stadium.

Sam Reynolds (2021, History) and Alexander Jackman (2022, BCL) are in the running to be part of the men’s Varsity team while Clodagh Holmes (2018, Medicine) is in the running for the women’s Varsity team. All three are regularly playing matches for the University as part of OURFC’s senior squads.

Clodagh and Sam both played in last year’s Varsity matches, which took place on Saturday 2 April. Oxford won the men’s Varsity match while the women’s match ended in a draw with Cambridge.

Clodagh started playing rugby in 2019 with Univ WRFC before beginning training with the University squad in Trinity term of her first year. She was named “Player of the Match” in her first-ever Blues match, after scoring two tries. Sam Reynolds started playing for the University in his first year, making the Varsity team as a fresher.

Alexander Jackman (2022, BCL)

Alexander Jackman started his BCL at Univ last year but has previous experience on the pitch, having captained Sydney University Rugby Club in 2017 while studying for his undergraduate Arts/Law degree.
