OM appointed to Australian Cabinet

Univ Old Member The Hon Josh Frydenberg MP (1996, Politics) was appointed Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia by the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, in the latest cabinet reshuffle.

The Australian reports, “The elevation of Mr Frydenberg from assistant treasurer to Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia drew a warm reaction from industry, who hailed his economic background as a strong positive, despite the respect for departing minister Ian Macfarlane. Mr Frydenberg received endorsement from former Labor resources minister Martin Ferguson, who is on the board of oil and gas giant BG Group, is resource executive for Seven Group Holdings and chairs an Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association advisory board.”

In the 1990s Josh Frydenberg was offered a scholarship to Oxford from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and completed an MPhil in International Relations at University College. He was twice awarded a Full Blue as a member of the Oxford tennis team with whom he toured to Hong Kong and Morocco.
