Medical Research Council grant

Medical Research Council grantProfessor Nicola R Sibson, Supernumerary Fellow in Medicine and Professor of Imaging Neuroscience in the Department of Oncology, has recently been awarded a Developmental Pathway Funding Scheme grant of £3.5m by the Medical Research Council to take her work on “Permeabilisation of brain metastases for early and more effective treatment” towards clinical trial.

Nicola’s research looks at the inflammatory and metabolic microenvironment in brain metastasis, aiming to develop imaging biomarkers for tumour detection and monitoring. She is a Senior Group Leader for the Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology.

Nicola is actively involved in teaching at the graduate level in Oxford. Within the Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology, she was Director of Graduate Studies for eight years. She is also a Module Leader in Imaging Technologies for the MSc Radiation Biology course in the Department of Oncology and she gives lectures both on this course and also the University’s Experimental Therapeutics MSc and EPSRC and MRC CDT in Biomedical Imaging courses.

Nicola wrote in May about how she has adapted her way of working during lockdown. You can also watch her talk about brain tumours in this National Cancer Research Institute video.
