WCR welcome letter

Profile: Judy SayersDear incoming graduate students,

It is a great pleasure to have this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to the Univ WCR. I am especially pleased to be welcoming you all to Oxford, as opposed to a remote platform in your living room at home. Following an unprecedented virtual Trinity term, as we enter Michaelmas 2020 the returning graduates look forward to meeting you all, and to reconnecting in person (albeit in groups of no more than six)!

Welcome Week, which runs from 4 to 10 October, is always remembered as a highlight of the academic year and I am sure that this year will be no exception. We have endeavoured to plan around the fast-evolving global health situation and to create a host of virtual and socially-distanced events through which we will be able to press on into this “new normal”-style year. Please refer to our timetable of Welcome Week events which commenced prior to 0th week on Sunday 27 September, and join us at as many of these events as you wish to. These will provide the opportunity for us to get to know you, and for you to meet the vibrant pre-existing graduate community here at Univ.

The WCR committee and I are here to help ease your arrival and will be on hand to answer questions in the coming weeks. Please do join the Univ WCR 2020-21 Facebook group for social, welfare and logistical notifications, and stay tuned for regular email updates. Additionally, the College have been working hard to ensure that College facilities function in a COVID-safe manner and have produced invaluable guidance on their operations both on this website, and on the Univ intranet site; I recommend these as ports of call should you have outstanding queries in the run up to the start of term.

I wish you well in your move to Oxford – and, if relevant, in your quarantine period – and I very much look forward to meeting you all.

With best wishes,

Judy
WCR President, 2020-2021
