Tu Youyou Award

Tu Youyou AwardProfessor Barry Potter, Supernumerary Fellow in Pharmacology, formally received his 2018 Tu Youyou Award for outstanding contributions to Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology, and for academic excellence, leadership and entrepreneurship across a wide spectrum of activities related to Chemistry, Biology and Medicine.

Professor Potter was given the award at the medicinal chemistry symposium, MMCS 2019: Facing Novel Challenges in Drug Discovery, held in Barcelona. Professor Potter also gave the Keynote Award Lecture on “Steroid Sulfatase Inhibition: Clinical Data, New Inhibitors & Insights for Sulfamate-Based Agents.”

His work examines the interaction between Chemistry and Biomedical Science, focussing on two principal areas: the Chemistry of Cell Signalling and Anticancer Drug Design & Discovery. This is not the first time Professor Potter’s work has been recognised, the Potter group has won many academic awards including several Royal Society of Chemistry medals, the Glaxo Smith Kline International Achievement Award, and a European Life Science Award.
