PEIO conference 2022
Old Members’ Trust Graduate Conference and Academic Travel Fund Report – Claas Mertens (2020, DPhil International Relations)
The Political Economy of International Organizations (PEIO) conference took place in Oxford (7-9 July 2022). PEIO is an international conference in the area of international political economy and international organisations and was attended by 90 leading academics in this field. Since this is exactly the area of my research it was a great opportunity for me to present my research and receive feedback.
In addition to the conference, the generous support also enabled me to attend a workshop the day before the conference (6 July). The topic of the workshop was “The Power of the Weak in International Organizations”. The participants in this workshop were a sub-set of participants of the PEIO conference. The purpose of the workshop was to work on a special issue publication in the Review of International Orgnization journal. I am co-authoring the framework for this special issue together with four Oxford Professors (one of them is Karolina Milewicz, one of my supervisors, who is currently on leave).
Finally, the day after the main conference (10 July) I attended another workshop with a sub-set of conference participants to which I was invited. The topic was “Exit from International Organizations: Bargaining and Change in International Cooperation” which is also closely related to my field of study.
Once again, thank you very much to the Old Members’ Trust for the generous support!
