Experiments with NASA

Dr SmithDr Smith recently led experiments on parabolic “zero-G” aircraft flights with NASA in Houston USA, as part of his work in aero-space medicine and physiology.

The experiments took place in February 2014 and Dr Smith will be presenting the study in the upcoming International Congress of Aviation and Space Medicine, which will be held in Oxford this September. He also submitted a paper on this experiment and hopes to hear back soon whether or not it will be published.

Dr Smith’s research is focussed primarily on heart and lung physiology and aerospace medicine, and has included studies in healthy volunteers and patients conducted in the laboratory, at high altitude (in the remote Peruvian Andes) and on commercial airline flights and he is especially interested in aeromedical critical care medicine.
