Chemistry Dinner 2018
Univ Chemists past and present were invited to spend an evening in College on 27 October. The event showcased research being undertaken by our current students, and was an opportunity to thank Old Members and friends who have generously contributed to Chemistry initiatives at the College in recent years. We were delighted that Alasdair Nisbet (1981), Founder and CEO of Natrium Capital, was our guest speaker at the dinner.
Over drinks before dinner, two current graduate students and one recent leaver presented posters on their current/recent research – Robert Scanes (2015), Jessica Reynolds (2016) and Andrew Gair (2014).
Dr Martin D Smith, Helen Martin Old Member’s Tutorial Fellow in Organic Chemistry, Professor of Organic Chemistry and Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Synthesis for Biology & Medicine, gave an update on Chemistry at Univ during the evening, including support towards the Bob Thomas Graduate Scholarship and John Albery Fund for academic travel & research.
Other fellows in attendance included Professor David Logan, Professorial Fellow and Coulson Professor of Theoretical Chemistry, and Dr Martin Galpin, Supernumerary Fellow and College Lecturer in Mathematics for Chemistry, and Deputy Director of Studies in Chemistry.
