Work begins on the Univ North site

Univ North hoarding to south of site entrance on Banbury RoadThe Univ North development has reached an important milestone with the College submitting its Notice of Commencement, the formal signal of the start of engineering and construction works following the site preparation, tree management and the like.

The works, which started on 6 March, include widening entranceways, laying of haul road and demolitions prior to pressing on to deliver the “material start” works, comprising groundworks for each of the seven buildings in phase 1. The groundworks are anticipated to be completed by mid-2023, with detailed construction design being completed in parallel ready for implementation.

Univ North widening of site entrance on Banbury RoadSDC, our building contractors, have set up the site, completed the tree works and are now ready to move into the execution of the scheme. The trees identified to be relocated have been carefully scooped out of the ground and protected prior to transport down to the College’s Sports Ground (all under the supervision of an arboriculturalist) to be planted.

The location of Univ’s visionary North Oxford development at Staverton Road has been a second home for students for nearly 50 years. The new Univ North development will offer the College’s community of staff, students and academics modern, energy-efficient, multi-functional buildings with up to 150 study bedspaces, gym, café, study, meeting and lecture spaces, as well as a 54-place nursery provision.

The scheme will renovate existing buildings, rejuvenate heritage orchards, and offer beautifully landscaped gardens, together with accessible access routes and rooms. This continues Univ’s aim to provide the very best facilities for students, staff and academics.
