Women’s bookshelf
Ruqayah Juyel (2017, Law), JCR Women’s Rep, came up with the idea of establishing a women’s bookshelf in the College Library. Elizabeth Adams, College Librarian, has been coordinating the many requests.
Students, Fellows, alumnae, and staff have already suggested books, ranging from classics like Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale to current feminist works such as Mary Beard’s Women and Power: a Manifesto, to a biography of Dorothy Hodgkin, the 1964 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry.
Ruqayah is also the subject of our first profile celebrating 40 years of women at Univ, where she discusses her work as JCR Women’s Rep.
You can find the bookshelf in the New Library. If you have a book you would like to recommend for the bookshelf please email Elizabeth: Elizabeth.Adams@univ.ox.ac.uk
