OM becomes youngest MP in House

Man with short hair wearing a suit without a tie smiling in front of greeneryLast month, Keir Mather (MPP, 2020) won the Selby and Ainsty by-election for Labour. At 25, he becomes the youngest MP in the House of Commons.

In the by-election, he overturned a Conservative majority of over 20,000, a 23.7% swing. It is the largest Conservative majority overturned by Labour at a by-election since 1945.

After completing a BA in History and Politics at Wadham College, Keir spent a year as a Parliamentary Researcher for UK Member of Parliament Wes Streeting. While at Oxford, Keir was Co-chair of the Oxford University Labour Club. While working on issues like Brexit and COVID-19, Keir decided to do a master’s degree in Public Policy (MPP) at Univ. Keir Mather was one of Blavatnik School’s first Political Leadership Scholars.
