OM appointed Head of Winchester College

Smiling woman with shoulder length light brown hairElizabeth Stone (1998, Law) was appointed Head of Winchester College, from September 2023. She is Winchester College’s first female head teacher.

She was previously Principal of Queenwood School, Sydney, a leading independent girls’ school with 900 pupils. From 2012 to 2014, she was Vice Principal of Cheltenham Ladies College and before that, she spent three years at Winchester, where she was a maths teacher and Undermaster.

Before undertaking a master’s degree in Law at University College Oxford as a Rhodes scholar, she did an undergraduate degree at the University of New South Wales, studying Maths, German and Law. She worked at the Supreme Court of New South Wales and held an academic appointment at the University of New South Wales Faculty of Law, specialising in commercial contract law then beginning her career in teaching.

Elizabeth commented, “I am delighted to be re-joining Winchester College, which is already a special place for me and my family, and feel deeply honoured to be invited to lead a school with such a proud history and contemporary outlook. I look forward to getting to know all the pupils, staff, parents, and wider community.”
