Meet the new Head Porter

Smiling mam with a beard in a blue Univ shirtWe are delighted to announce that Christopher Davies has recently joined Univ as the College’s Head Porter. Here are a few words from Chris:

“Hi, I’m Chris! I am the new Head Porter here at Univ. A little background on myself, I am originally from the Rhondda in south Wales, I came to Oxford 18 years ago to study and have lived in the county ever since.

“I started my work life in the licenced trade and managed a pub in the city for a number of years before joining Wadham College where, over seven years, I held a number of college roles including Bar Steward, Cellarer, and a secondment as Head Butler. I left Wadham in 2021 and have been working in the steel industry for the past two years, but when I saw that the Head Porter role had become available here at Univ the draw of returning to College life was too strong to resist.

“In my personal life, I am married and my wife, Jess, is a sister at the John Radcliffe Hospital. I also have a sidekick in black labrador, Poppy, who I am sure will make a college appearance in the future. I am a bit of a sports nut, having played rugby and golf all my life but I have many other interests too including wine, music, and comedy. So please feel free to come and meet me and say hello.

“While I am here, the Lodge will always be a safe space to come and chat, where the kettle is always on, and there will be a friendly face if you ever need anything. My first few weeks at Univ have been amazing, everyone has been very friendly and helpful, I am very excited about getting stuck in and meeting everyone over the coming months, and I am looking forward to what the future holds.”
