College News
• Meet Savannah Phillips, Univ’s new Schools Liaison & Access Officer.
• Read the travel report by Alison (Hoi Yee) Tam (2021, Inorganic Chemistry for Future Manufacturing – (EPSRC CDT)) on their research at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology.
• Alex Benn, Senior Lecturer in Law, has been photographed for Oliver Frank Chanarin’s most recent project, “A Perfect Sentence”.
• Aurelija Ippolito (2021, DPhil Pharmacology) recently had the opportunity to visit Cancun, Mexico for the 2023 International Society for Serotonin Research conference.
• Carlos Gonzalez Perez (2021, MPhil + DPhil in Economics) has been awarded the George Webb Medley Prize.
• Professor Tao Dong, Supernumerary Fellow, has been appointed the Brigitte (Ita) Askonas Professor of Translational Immunology.
• Nathaniel Hodson (2022, MPhil Theology) reports on the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics at the University of Aberdeen.
• On Sunday 10 September, in collaboration with the Oxford Preservation Trust, Univ will be taking part in Oxford Open Doors.
• In line with Univ’s continued commitment to sustainability, several mature trees at our Univ North development, were identified for relocation.
• Daniel Halford (2019, DPhil Earth Sciences) reports on the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists Helium Conference.
• As part of our ongoing ambitions to reduce our environmental impact, the College has led on the development of a pilot project for the colleges for “final mile” parcel delivery by engaging cargo bike couriers Pedal & Post.
• In this month’s Treasure we explore a recent photographic acquisition for the Archives of an 1890’s Univ football team.

• In our latest feature on Univ entrepreneurs, we meet Nathan Lucaussy (2017, Computer Science and Philosophy) and Andy Guariglia (2017, Medicine) co-founders of climate-tech startup, Angry Monk.
• Elizabeth Stone (1998, Law) has been appointed Head of Winchester College.
• Last month, Keir Mather (MPP, 2020) won the Selby and Ainsty by-election for Labour. At 25, becoming the youngest MP in the House of Commons.
• Due for publication in September, Katherine Brabon’s (2012-2013, MSt Modern British and European History) latest novel is Body Friend.
• Due to open at London’s Soho Theatre on 1 December is a new play by Armando Iannucci (1982, English), Pandemonium.

In Brief
• William Shawcross CVO (1965, PPE) was knighted “for public service” in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
• Sarah Harper, Professor of Gerontology and Director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing at the University of Oxford, was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 about the “extreme” population decline in Japan. She also commented on UK birth rates in both The Times and Telegraph.
• Simon Kirchin (1992, PPE) is leaving the University of Kent after 20 years having recently stood down as Dean of Humanities. He will be taking up the post of Prof. of Applied Ethics at the University of Leeds from January 2024.
• Between 5 and 16 September, Nick Schlee (1952, English) exhibited a retrospective of works from the 1950’s to present day, entitled “Early and Late” at Harvey and Woods in Edinburgh.
