Univ Shakespeare Society presents

This part is silent
a workshop with Jodie Kim

Thursday 16 May 2024, 5.15pm
Swire Seminar Room, University College, Oxford

Organised by Professor Joe Moshenska, Univ Beaverbook and Bouverie Tutorial Fellow in English

In Hardly War (2016), Don Mee Cho chants, “I refuse to translate.” She declares this over and over and over and over and over, “무궁화꽃이피었습니다.” Opening with a short reading from This Part Is Silent (WW Norton, 2024), the workshop will consider the power of working in refusal, exploring the practice of unwillingness and withholding.

Participants are invited to bring an object they are uncertain about whether to keep or get rid of, something that can safely and easily be handled by others.
