Welfare

Univ takes seriously the health and welfare of its members, and there are a number of ways in which the College offers support to students who are experiencing particular difficulties.

Should you find yourself in some sort of difficulty or distress, do ask for help at an early stage. Try not to let things drag on or get out of control. It’s particularly important that you ask for help if a problem is likely to affect your academic work.

Univ has a team of officers with shared responsibility for the welfare of students. We are there to try to help all members of the College to flourish, and to offer particular support to those who may find themselves in difficulties of one sort or another. Other support is also available from outside the College. Whatever your circumstances, you’re welcome to contact any of the following people:

  • Your tutor
  • The Senior Tutor, Dr Anne Knowland
  • The Dean, Dr Mike Nicholson
  • The Chaplain and Pro-Dean for Welfare, Revd Dr Andrew Gregory
  • The Welfare Registrar, Mrs Jane Vicat
  • The College Nurse, Mrs Alison Crowther
  • The Adviser for Women, Prof Tiffany Stern
  • The College Doctors
  • The Disabled Persons’ Officer, Dr Andrew Gregory

Here is a very short overview of what help is available to our students:

  • Academic support is the responsibility of subject tutors and the Senior Tutor
  • Professional medical support is available from the college nurse and doctors
  • Financial support is administered by the Domestic Bursar
  • General welfare support related to any of these issues or to anything else is available from all the above, as well as from the Chaplain/Pro-Dean for Welfare, the Welfare Registrar, the Dean, the Junior Deans, the JCR and WCR welfare officers and the college peer supporters.
