Travel Scholarships 2019
Through the generosity of Old Members of the College, several travel scholarships are made available each year for Univ undergraduates and graduates.
Master’s Scholarships – United States and Canada
Through gifts made by American and Canadian Old Members, we hope to be able to offer up to six Master’s Scholarships of up to $2,500 for travel in the USA and Canada; two will be assigned to Canada and four to the USA. These Scholarships are for undergraduates only (other than US or Canadian nationals).
Master’s Scholarships – Hong Kong and China
Two Master’s Scholarships for undergraduates (other than Chinese nationals) of up to £750 each towards airfares are offered for students to travel to Hong Kong and China. In addition free accommodation in Hong Kong and at Peking University is offered with this Scholarship.
David and Lois Sykes Scholarships – China
These two annual scholarships, of up to £1,000, have been established through the gift of an Old Member, David Sykes, and his wife Lois. All students (undergraduates and graduates) other than Chinese nationals are eligible to apply, for travel in mainland China.
Roger Short Scholarships – Turkey and neighbouring states
Undergraduates and graduates (other than Turkish nationals) are eligible to apply for these four scholarships of up to £1,000 in memory of Roger Short, an Old Member killed in a terrorist attack in 2004. They are funded by the Roger Short Memorial Trust, set up in 2005 by his fellow students and friends.
Brewster Scholarships – UK travel
For overseas graduate students, the three Brewster Scholarships of up to £600 have been funded through the generosity of an American Old Member and the late Mrs Kingman Brewster for travel in the UK.
These travel awards do not cater for those wishing to take up internships abroad. In such cases, students are asked to apply instead to the Academic Office for funding from the Academic Opportunity Fund.
Please note that applications are now closed. Details of when applications reopen will be made available on our News and Features pages and on Facebook and Twitter.
A selection of travel diaries and reports by former Scholarship recipients, including those awarded under the above headings, can be read on our News and Features pages.
