The Martlet issue 9

Univ The Martlet Issue 9 coverThe Martlet issue 9 is now online, with hard copies shortly being mailed and pidged to the College community.

Along with our usual roundup of College news and reports, this issue includes features on Banking and Big Data, the Marshall Scholarships, and the epic walk from Istanbul to Vienna and back by OM Paddy Devlin (2007, MESc Earth Sciences).

Univ’s Dr Matthew Cheung-Salisbury interviews former music scholar Lewis Coenen-Rowe about what it takes to be a composer, we catch up with OM Joe Robertson (2008, English), playwright and Artistic Director of Good Chance Theatre, on his new play, The Jungle, and talk to food writer and photographer Skye McAlpine (2003, Classics).

We find out how Univ graduate scholar Farah Colchester (2013, DPhil Life Sciences Interface) has been involved in an innovative technological response to water shortages and handpump service maintenance issues in Africa, and meet Univ alumna Elizabeth Creek (2008, BA and MSt Oriental Studies), Associate Programme Coordinator for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
