Student takes on 5k a day challenge

Julia MaginUniv student Julia Magin (Biomedical Sciences, 2025) is taking part in the “5k a day in June” challenge to raise money for the charity Young Lives vs Cancer.

Through her studies and research in cancer biology as part of her MSc in Applied Cancer Science, Julia has become increasingly aware of the challenges that cancer patients and their families face. Julia worked on leukaemia research as part of her undergraduate degree in Bioscience at Goethe University, Frankfurt, and she continues her involvement in research aimed at improving prognosis for patients with leukaemia and Richter transformation at the University of Oxford.

Julia said: “While research is essential for developing better treatments, I have also learned that patients need support beyond medical care. Young people facing cancer often have to cope with major emotional, practical and financial challenges, and charities such as Young Lives vs Cancer provide vital support during these difficult times.

That is why I decided to take part in this challenge. By running, cycling or rowing 5 km every day in June, I hope to raise awareness and support for young people and families affected by cancer. Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated and will help Young Lives vs Cancer continue their important work.”

Julia is collecting donations for Young Lives vs Cancer via her fundraising page.
