Washington Gala Dinner

As part of the 775 Celebrations, The British Ambassador, Dame Karen Pierce DCMG and The Master, The Rt Hon Baroness Amos LG CH PC, invited Old Members, friends of the College, students, parents and carers of students and their guests to a Gala Dinner at The British Ambassador’s Residence in Washington D.C. on Saturday, 20 April 2024. Key attendees from the College included Dr Andrew Bell (1993, History), Senior Tutor, Felice Nassar, Director of Development, Communications, and Alumni Relations, Harriet Bayly, Deputy Director of Development.

The evening commenced with opening remarks from Dame Karen Pierce and Baroness Amos, who welcomed guests and talked about the importance of the 775 Celebrations. They spoke about the College’s rich history and its future. Guests enjoyed a wonderful dinner, which was a great opportunity to network and reconnect with old friends.

Dr Andrew Bell gave an engaging keynote speech about the College’s achievements and future goals. He discussed the importance of community and the role of alumni in supporting the College.

The Gala Dinner was a big success, bringing together many people connected to the College. The event celebrated the College’s 775th anniversary and strengthened the community bonds. The presence of distinguished guests and the engaging discussions highlighted the College’s legacy and bright future.

“With fantastic representation from Univ alums across the country and deeply engaging conversations throughout, we could not have rung in Univ’s 775th anniversary in more fitting fashion. Dame Karen and Sir Charles’s hospitality was superb, the British Residence in full bloom was spectacular, and the chance to interact with Alumni from across the country and indeed world – spanning generations – was a treat. The onstage discussion between Baroness Amos and the Ambassador was a fitting reminder of the forward-looking and engaged global community that has helped define Univ – and will continue to in these changing times.”
Dr R David Edelman (2009, International Relations)

Special thanks to The British Ambassador, Dame Karen Pierce, and The Master, The Rt Hon. Baroness Amos, for their warm hospitality and leadership in organising this memorable event. Thanks also to all attendees for their participation and support, making the Gala Dinner a truly remarkable occasion.
