Biocat 2022 report

Graduate Old Members’ Trust Travel report – Alison Tam (2021, Inorganic Chemistry for Future Manufacturing (EPSRC CDT))

I arrived in Hamburg by flight at 8.30am on 28 August 2022, for the purpose of attending the 10th International Congress on Biocatalysis (Biocat 2022). After grabbing coffee and food, I checked into the shared hotel space alongside some Vincent group members. We registered at the conference by 5pm, which was being hosted at the Technical University of Hamburg.

Over the course of four days, I attended various inspiring talks delivered by leaders in the field of Biocatalysis including my supervisor’s (Prof. Kylie Vincent) talk, engaged with interesting poster sessions, and gained various invaluable contacts in the industry. The conference ran from approximately 9am to 6pm each day, and generally lunch (but not breakfast and dinner) was provided.

Other highlights included a conference dinner and mingle aboard a boat, which was included within the conference registration fee. I also visited a local “London themed” pub after the mingle and saw other sights that Hamburg had to offer (no University College funding was spent here).

I am very grateful for the opportunity granted to me by University College Oxford in attending this Biocat 2022 conference, through the Old Members’ Trust Graduate and Academic Travel Fund.
