Badgers at Univ sportsground
In June 2025, an extensive survey at the Univ sportsground allowed the College to ascertain the location of badger setts at the site.
During the survey, members of the College Grounds Maintenance team led by Robbie Eason, Head of Grounds Maintenance, worked alongside leading ecologists from Future Nature WTC, the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust, to locate two setts at the College sportsground.
The first sett has six entrances and is located under a disused hut. The second set, which was identified as the main sett, featured a community path and ten entrances, This sett seemed to be active, evidenced by badger spoil heaps, dung and hair along pathways.
In response to these findings, in July the College deployed a static trail camera at the second sett, which confirmed the presence of two badgers. Their behaviour and scent marking indicated that they are most likely a boar and a sow.
The trail camera also captured a variety of other wildlife present at the College sportsground, including a muntjac and its fawn and two foxes carrying nesting material.
