Univ North Docuseries Episode One
The College has launched an original docuseries to showcase the work involved in the conception and evolution of the Univ North development. The first episode features personal perspectives from a number of key figures involved in the project including Univ’s former Master Sir Ivor Crewe, current Master Baroness Valerie Amos, Foundation Donor David Frederick, architect Níall McLaughlin and Project Director Andrew Grant.
Sir Ivor Crewe said: “I felt from the start very committed to the idea of establishing not only a new College community on the Fairfield site, but a new kind of College community. So I worked with others in the College to devise a plan, to identify what we thought College students and fellows would want, not only immediately but over the rest of the century.”
In the episode, Sir Ivor Crewe describes how, after the College obtained the land around Fairfield House, plans to create a new College community emerged. Following consultation with Major Benefactors and Old Members, the Univ North Working Party refined their vision and intentions to create a master plan that would respect the history of the area and serve future members of College community by addressing their changing needs.
The vision for the development underwent rigorous analysis, leading to a robust design process that could reflect the historic past of the location, allow for intergenerational living and embrace sustainability throughout.
