Univ’s iNaturalist project

Univ’s iNaturalist project - grass and bluebellsMembers of the Univ community can now help monitor biodiversity across College sites thanks to a new dedicated iNaturalist project.

iNaturalist is a citizen science platform that allows users to identify and contribute to scientific research and conservation efforts. Users record and share wildlife observations, contributing to a global database that supports biodiversity research, conservation, and education. The platform allows anyone to become a citizen scientist by documenting their encounters with plants and animals, seeking to help track species distribution, monitor populations, and even discover new species.

Univ’s iNaturalist project enables members to log their observations of nature at College sites, including Univ North and the sportsground. This will support the College in recording, monitoring and protecting biodiversity more closely.

After creating an account on the iNaturalist website or using the iNaturalist app (Android and iOS), members can add observations and include up to four photos per record. The platform provides suggestions to help identity each species, and the community can also help identify member observations.
