What Does LGBT+ Mean?

James Canning (2015, Physics) recently co-authored What Does LGBT+ Mean along with children’s writer Olly Pike and his mother, Mel Lane. What Does LGBT+ mean is designed as an educational book for KS2 children, written to be easy to use in the classroom.

This is Pop’n’Olly’s first non-fiction book, aimed at upper KS2 & lower KS3 students (or anyone who needs a bit of education). The book explores identity, assigned sex, gender, love, sexuality, discrimination, privilege, allyship, pride and more. The book has been trialled in classrooms and is specifically designed to help educators. Some of the chapters can already be watched as animated videos on YouTube.

On 25 September, the authors held a pop-up shop on Oxford Street where people could buy and donate the book to schools. Over 400 people attended the event. If you would like to donate a copy to a school you can do so via the LGBT Education website.

You can find out more about the book here.
