UCBC row from Oxford to London
In September, rowers from University College Boat Club (UCBC) completed a long-distance row from Oxford to London. Dr Nick Kanellakis, Stipendiary Lecturer in Pathology and co-treasurer of UCBC has kindly provided a report of the rowing challenge and subsequent training camp in Gloucester.
This September, members of University College Boat Club took on an epic challenge: rowing from Oxford to London over three days from 19 till 21 September – a journey of over 120 miles along the Thames. This was a fundraiser for our training camp in Gloucester.
We had a fantastic journey and we arrived in London on time for the reception at Vesta Rowing Club. We were very glad to reconnect with Old Members and
hear rowing stories from their time at UCBC.
We are very grateful to all people who generously donated for our training camp. Thanks to you we managed to raise £2,715!
Our training camp ran from 26 till 28 September and was a huge success! All 30 UCBC members who participated enjoyed rowing on the Gloucester-Purton canal and the double daily sessions!
Strong as a team, we are looking forward to the winter season of head races!
