Orfeó Català name OM winner

man in blue short sitting at a piano holding a penJonathan Lane (1977, Biochemistry) was recently awarded 1st Prize in the prestigious International Choral Composition Competition of the Orfeó Català in Spain for his new setting of the Marian hymn, Ave Maris Stella.

The jury, composed of Pablo Larraz, conductor of the Orfeó Català and president of the jury; Buia Reixach i Feixes, conductor of the Cor de Noies de l’Orfeó Català; Montserrat Meneses, assistant conductor of the Orfeó Català and conductor of the Coral Cantiga; Isabel Mantecón, conductor of the Cor de la Diputació de Girona, and composers Marc Timón and Ferran Cruixent, considered 362 scores entered from 219 composers across 51 nationalities.

Jonathan’s submission will premiere at the Festa de la Música Coral on March 3, 2024 at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. Tickets available at classictic.com
