New Year Honours 2026
Congratulations to Professor Gideon Henderson CBE, Professor Tamsin Mather OBE, Dan Corry OBE, Andrew Scott CB, Kim Wilkie CBE and Peter Clark BEM, all of whom were recognised in the King’s 2026 New Year Honours List for their extraordinary achievements and service. Read more here.
In Memoriam: Kay Glendinning MBE

Badgers at Univ sportsground
An extensive survey at the College sportsground along with the installation of a static trail camera has confirmed the presence of two badgers and a variety of other wildlife at the site. Read more and see photos from the trail camera here.

Planktonic image wins TMS competition.
Dr Odysseus A Archontikis (2019, Environmental Sciences) and Dr Josué G. Millán won The Micropalaeontological Society (TMS) Image Competition 2025 with a striking image of phytoplanktonic organism. Read more here.

Interning at Monash University
Alex Mapp (2021, DPhil Inorganic Chemistry for Future Manufacturing) shared an account of his three-month internship at Monash Innovation, the technology transfer office at Monash University in Melbourne. This trip was funded by the Keasbey Travel Fund. Read the full travel report here.
Exploring religion in Turkey
Mia Muxlow (2022, PPE) shared details of her trip to Turkey, where she spent time exploring Turkish culture and developing her knowledge and experience of religion. This trip was funded by the Roger Short Memorial Fund. Read the full travel diary here.
Law student secures non-profit funding
Niyati Sharma (2024, Law) is Founder and Executive Director of the Pratisandhi Foundation, which provides sex education for young people in India. The organisation recently secured ten million rupees (approximately £82,000) to fund school-based consent education programmes over the next three years. Read more here.
ISV 2025 Conference, South Africa
Jack Saunders (2021, DPhil Interdisciplinary Bioscience) shared his experience of attending and delivering an oral presentation at the International Society for Vaccines (ISV) Annual Congress, held in Stellenbosch, South Africa. This trip was funded by the Old Members’ Trust Graduate Conference and Academic Travel Fund. Read the full travel report here.

Fellows and other academics
•Professor Patrick Rebeschini, Professor of Statistics and Machine Learning and Tutorial Fellow in Statistics at Univ, has been appointed to the Professorship of Statistical Science in the Department of Statistics, with effect from 1 February 2026. Professor Rebeschini will take up the professorship while continuing his work in the Department of Statistics and will become a Fellow of St Anne’s College. Congratulations to Patrick on this appointment.
•Professor Sarah Harper CBE, Supernumerary Fellow in Gerontology, Clore Professor of Gerontology and Director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, commented on the implications of two-thirds of the world’s countries having fertility rates below the replacement level, outlining both the challenges and opportunities for current and future generations. •Professor Ngaire Woods CBE, Senior Research Fellow and founding Dean of the Blavatnik School of Government, spoke about the challenges of bringing together the brokers of power in Venezuela to share in one vision at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.
