Laura Varnam’s Beowulf dragon

Dr Laura Varnam, Lecturer in Old and Middle English Literature, has had a poem – Dead Dragon, Deep Dragon – published in a new anthology Gods & Monsters: Mythological Poems edited by Ana Sampson.

The book is illustrated by former children’s laureate Chris Riddell, and with an introduction by Natalie Haynes. It also includes poems from Neil Gaiman, W B Yeats, Kae Tempest, Sylvia Plath, Shakespeare and Benjamin Zephaniah.

Dead Dragon, Deep Dragon is part of Laura’s creative adaptation project, Poems for the Women of Beowulf: A ‘Contemporary Medieval’, which she recently presented at this year’s Teachers of Old English in Britain and Ireland (TOEBO) conference at the University of Birmingham.
