IIT Central Research Lab

Univ Olivia Ashton Travel reportResearch Training Fund Travel Report – Olivia Ashton

I travelled to Genova, Italy for just under three-months to work at IIT Central Research Laboratory in the Nanochemistry department under Prof Liberato Manna. The group I worked in are experts in colloidal synthesis and the institute has a wealth of equipment which I was able to make use of whilst there. It was a positive and productive experience where I was able to make great progress in my own research as well as establishing a very positive relationship with the group there.

When not in the lab, I made the most of my time in Italy by travelling to different cities (Rome, Milan, Verona, Florence) and exploring the Liguria coast line on various hikes in the Portofino area and visiting the Cinque Terre. I immersed myself in the Genovese culture of pesto and had some delicious food whilst there.
