Carolling at Univ

Singers at the carolling eveningOn the last Thursday of term, Front Quad was briefly taken over by children from five local primary schools for an outdoors carolling event.

The Chapel Choir and the Univ Community Choir were joined by choirs, parents and staff from St Barnabas Church of England Primary School, Church Cowley St James Church of England Primary School, Comper Foundation Stage School, East Oxford Primary School and St Frideswide Church of England Primary School. For some, it was the first time they had ever been into a college.

Each group sang its own carols, and everyone came together at the end to sing some old favourites, including Good King Wenceslas and The Twelve Days of Christmas. It was cold, but clear, and there was hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies to keep out the chill. The children (big and small!) had glow sticks to play with and the quad was littered with flickering tea lights to produce a magical hour of carols.

We were delighted they were able to join us for this, and we hope it will be the start of a new tradition at Univ, when we can, to use the words of the Master, fling the doors open and invite the larger community into our space.

Our thanks go to Giles Underwood our Director of Music and to all who helped make this magical evening possible.
