Atlantic Rowing Challenge

Four brothers standing with their grandmother in front a rowing boat in a harbourEuan Friend (2017, MEarthSci Geology/Earth Sciences) will be competing in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge this December with his brothers Jack, Hamish, and Arthur.

Euan is currently studying his physics PGCE alongside Arthur at Oxford and is a prop on the Oxford University Rugby Club’s Blues 1st team rugby. He has Euan will use his oceanography knowledge from the Earth Sciences course to help navigate the brothers through the stormy waters whilst also educating the brothers on the various fauna they will encounter.

The brothers will be hoping to raise more than £150,000 for three charities (Drive Forward, Friends of Kiwoko Hospital and Churches Housing Action Team), setting off from the Canary Islands and arriving in Antigua after a voyage of discovery they hope to complete within 30 to 40 days. Drive Forward Foundation enables children and young people with experience of foster or residential care to achieve their full potential through sustainable and fulfilled employment, education, and training. Friends of Kiwoko Hospital are a charity set up to support the work of the Kiwoko Hospital through financial support, prayer, and communication. Churches Housing Action Team (CHAT) aims to tackle homelessness, avoid evictions and bring hope across Mid Devon.
