775 Univ Alumni Drinks in Dublin
On Thursday, 3 October 2024, University College alumni, Fellows, students, and staff came together for a special alumni drinks reception at the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. The event, held from 5 to 7.15pm, was arranged through the generous hospitality of Dr Caroline Campbell (1991, History), Director of the Gallery, and offered an exclusive opportunity for attendees to reconnect with the College in a prestigious setting.
The evening began with a warm welcome from the Master, Baroness Valerie Amos, who spoke to the importance of maintaining close ties with the Univ community, especially among Old Members and friends living abroad. Attendees also had the pleasure of meeting a representative from the Alumni and Development team, who highlighted the latest initiatives and updates from the College.
A highlight of the evening was a private tour of the Gallery’s collections, led by Dr Lizzie Marx, Curator of Dutch and Flemish Art. Dr Marx guided the group through some of the Gallery’s most celebrated pieces, offering rich insights into the historical and cultural significance of the works on display. This rare opportunity to engage with art in such a personalised manner was a true delight for the attendees.
The reception continued with drinks and conversation, fostering an atmosphere of connection and camaraderie among Univ’s diverse alumni network. It was a memorable evening of art, culture, and shared memories, strengthening the bond between Univ and its community in Ireland and beyond.
