Green Action Week 2026
This week marks Green Action Week, a University-wide celebration of environmental action running from 23 February to 27 February.
A recent University survey found that more than 70% of staff and students have noticed positive sustainability changes, with many already taking action. Green Action Week aims to empower staff and students across the University to take environmental action.
The theme for Green Action Week this year is “The top five things to do for the environment” and centres around encouraging staff and students to talk about their top five actions for environmental sustainability. These actions will look different across colleges, departments and roles but might include the following:
– Commuting sustainably wherever possible
– Reducing meat consumption by swapping red meat for poultry, fish or plant-based options
– Lowering your heating by one degree to save energy
– Reducing consumption and thinking before purchasing
– Sharing ideas with others and encouraging them to take action.
By sharing ideas and focusing on what can have the greatest impact, we can support each other and keep building sustainability into our daily work and study. Green Action Week is a chance to start those conversations and to turn good intentions into positive impactful action.
Sustainability at Univ remains at the forefront of College operations and decision-making. Colleges Sustainability Officer Jillian Mowbray works with a number of teams at Univ such as the accommodation, hospitality, works, grounds and gardening teams as well as the Sustainability Committee to help drive sustainability forward across the College.
The University’s Environmental Sustainability team also produce three targeted email newsletters – one for staff and Green Impact participants, one for those working in laboratory environments, and one aimed at students.
