Singapore Reception 2026

Singapore Reception 2026Members of the College community attended a reception hosted by the Master, Baroness Valerie Amos, in Singapore during her trip to Hong Kong and Singapore in January 2026.

Rhiannon Pandey (2003, Oriental Studies) has written a report of the event.

On a typically humid January evening in Singapore, it was a privilege for Univ alumni to be welcomed by the Master, Baroness Amos LG, to a special reception. We were generously hosted by Laurence Lien (1989, PPE) at his family villa — a beautiful and intimate setting that provided the perfect backdrop for reconnection and thoughtful conversation.

Reflecting Singapore’s international character, the gathering brought together alumni of many backgrounds, including Singaporeans, expats and even a Malaysian alumnus who had travelled especially to attend. Careers represented spanned government, financial and legal services, entrepreneurship and academia, underscoring the breadth of Univ’s global community. It was particularly insightful to be joined by a current DPhil student, whose reflections on contemporary student life offered a bridge between past and present.

In her address, the Master shared updates on significant developments at Univ, including progress on Univ North, and encouraged us to visit the College. Around 6,700 miles from Oxford, the evening was a powerful reminder that while geography may separate us, the shared experience of a Univ education continues to connect our community across continents and across generations.
