National Translation Award in Poetry

Bill Johnston (1979, Modern Languages) has won the 2019 National Translation Award in Poetry awarded by the American Literary Translators Association for his translation of Pan Tadeusz: The Last Foray in Lithuania. 

Dr Johnston has published over 30 translations from Polish, winning numerous awards, including the Best Translated Book Award, the PEN Translation Prize, the AATSEEL Translation Prize (twice), and the Found in Translation Award (twice).

He is also a recipient of the Amicus Poloniae award, presented by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, the Diploma of the Polish Foreign Ministry, and the Officer’s Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, for his work in promoting Polish culture and Polish-American cooperation.
