Gift to Endow Fellowship

Professor H.L.A. Hart

Professor H.L.A. Hart

The College is delighted to announce that the HLA Hart Visiting Fellowship in Law has been endowed in perpetuity, thanks to a transformative gift from the Rt Hon. Lord Mance, (1961, Law). We are grateful to him for this generous contribution to the life of the College, and in recognition of this will rename the Fellowship the HLA Hart-JH Mance Visiting Fellowship in Philosophy, Law and Politics.

The College would also like to thank Mr Ray Fellman and the Arseny and Olga Kovshar Foundation, Mr Andrew White, Mr Kevin Warburton, Mr Michael Hayes and the many other generous donors who have also contributed to this appeal.

The Fellowship is an important part of our offering in Law, underpinning the College’s reputation as an intellectual hub for Jurisprudence studies. It brings eminent lawyers and philosophers from around the world to the College each year, to take part in the academic discourse at Univ, offer seminars and lectures to students and colleagues, and pursue their own research.

Old Members are invited to join us in College for this year’s HLA Hart Memorial Lecture on Thursday 16 May at 5pm, in collaboration with the Law Faculty. The speaker is Professor Anita L Allen, who is Henry R Silverman Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also this year’s HLA Hart-JH Mance Visiting Fellow. She will be speaking on the subject of “Unconditional Love, Some Implications for the Law.” Please save the date; invitations will go out shortly.
