Frank Marshall Prize Recital 2026

Lucy Baker playing the violaOn Friday 29 May, an audience gathered at the 10 Merton Street Lecture Theatre to hear a violin recital by Lucy Baker, winner of the inaugural Frank Marshall Instrumental Prize.

Lucy is in her first year at Univ, studying History and Politics. She won the £500 prize which will go towards her extra-curricular music study.

During the recital, Lucy played a short programme of music chosen for the event, including Sonata in G minor, op. 19, movement 2: Allegro scherzando, Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943), Viola Concerto, movement 1: Andante Comodo, William Walton (1902-1983), Elegy for Viola and Piano in G Minor, op. 44, Alexander Glazunov (1865-1936) and Après Un Rêve, Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924).

The recital was followed by a drinks reception in the Fellows’ Garden with many of the attendees going on to enjoy the Alumni Formal Hall.
