Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade Fortnight posterUniv is supporting Fairtrade Fortnight – 26 February to 11 March. We are delighted to highlight some of the exciting and innovative events that are taking place across Oxford during this time and also welcome members of the Univ community to drop into the Buttery this week (26 February – 2 March) to guess the number of Fairtrade Jelly Beans in the jar for a chance to win a bumper bundle of Fairtrade goodies.

Univ’s Buttery already stocks or uses a wide range of Fairtrade products including: coffee beans, tea bags, hot chocolate sachets, orange juice, bananas, ice tea, oats and raisin cookies…

Oxford Botanic Gardens
26 February – 11 March
Discover the plants that produce Fairtrade products at Oxford Botanic Gardens.

Meet a Chilean Producer
27 February 12noon – 1.30pm (Lord Mayor’s Parlour, Oxford City Council, St Aldates)
Meet wine producer Maria Pacheco and the Lord Mayor. A bring-your-own lunch in Walton Street immediately after.

Can a career in Fair Trade make a difference?
28 February 6pm – 8pm (Turl Street Kitchen)
Hear from two lifelong social entrepreneurs and campaigners.

Talk by Feng Ho
1 March, 7.30pm (The Barns Cafe, Abingdon)
Talk by Feng Ho, ethical fashion designer, with Fairtrade wine, LemonAid & ChariTea.

Embroidery Workshop
3 March 3pm – 5.30 PM (Jericho community centre)
Workshop teaching how to decorate clothing with Kantha embroidery – a traditional South Asian stitch used by Fair Trade producers in India and Bangladesh.

Women’s Voices in Fairtrade
6 March 7pm – 9pm (Christ Church College, The Undercroft Bar)
Film and discussion – what influences women to take action and have a lasting impact in the fair trade movement?

Lunch and Learn
8 March 12noon – 1.30pm (Oxford Brookes JHB201)
Free Fairtrade lunch & learn event looking into the lives of Fairtrade workers with coffee grower Ketra from Uganda and Brookes graduate Andy of Visible Clothing.

Meet a Ugandan coffee producer
8 March 5.30pm (Examination Schools, High Street)
Meet Ketra Kyosiimire, a Fairtrade coffee producer from Uganda.

Headington Fair Trade shop
3 & 10 March
Free coffee and cake in the shop. Fairtrade St Michaels
10 March 11am – 1pm
Free teas and coffees, and a photo booth for Fairtrade selfies! Plus a chance to win a Fairtrade hamper.
