Ascension Day 2020

Main Quad UnivToday, 21 May, is Ascension Day, which marks the end of the season of Easter.

Traditionally Univ would start the day with members of the Chapel Choir singing in Main Quad, with parishioners of the University Church of St Mary the Virgin later visiting College for the traditional “Beating of the Bounds”. This year, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic prevents these celebrations.

However, members of the Chapel Choir have remotely recorded two special songs –

The Eternal Gates Lift up Their Heads by Christopher Tye and Cantate Domino (O Sing Unto the Lord a New Song) by Giuseppe Pitoni.

We hope you enjoy this “virtual celebration”.

Throughout today the University Church of St Mary the Virgin will be conducting a virtual “Beating of the Bounds” via their website and Twitter feed using #virtualbeatingofthebounds
