Schools Liaison

East range of Radcliffe Quad at UnivHere at University College, we believe everyone should have the chance to apply and thrive at Oxford, no matter their background. Our Schools Liaison and Access work works to level the playing field so students who may not have support through school or other networks can do so through us. We do this through various events and activities with schools, individual students, and supporters. We are linked with Staffordshire, Shropshire, and western Berkshire, but frequently hold events open to students from all corners of the UK.

The College is often referred to by students as ‘The Access College’ due to our history of being one of the top colleges for admitting students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds. Between 2022 and 2024, we were in the top 3 Oxford colleges for admitting students from less advantaged areas (ACORN categories 4 and 5) and areas with low progression to higher education (POLAR quintiles 1 and 2), whilst 31.3% admitted came from Global Majority Backgrounds. We are proud to be the college where the first Black student graduated from Oxford (Christian Cole), and this history reflects in the modern day, where we have the second highest offer rate of all colleges to Black students between 2022 and 2024.

In addition to the events we provide at the College, prospective applicants are welcome to visit the College for free for a self-guided tour. Prospective applicants along with any accompanying visitors may arrive at the College entrance (Porter’s Lodge) to look around. The What3Words location for the entrance of the college is ‘///enable.trades.season’.

Prospective students may also be interested in visiting the College during the university Open Days to meet current students, tutors and admissions staff. A virtual tour of the College is also available.

Students keen to stretch their knowledge beyond the syllabus should explore our Staircase12 pages. Staircase12 is University College’s online information hub for students aiming high at school and thinking about applying to top universities. Here you’ll find plenty of material and “super-curriculars” to help you develop your interests, along with book reviews from students and tutors to help you “read around” your subject. Take a look at the Staircase12 pages or follow us on Instagram for all the latest information.
