Young Univ Drinks August 2025

Young Univ members (Old Members aged 35 and under) and their guests attended Young Univ Drinks on 1 August at The Astronomer pub in London. The event provided an opportunity to meet the Young Univ Ambassadors, who will act as representatives for the Young Univ community and be a point of contact. Following several years without a dedicated Young Univ event, it was a delight to welcome back Young Univ members to an event hosted at The Astronomer in London. Held on the evening of 1 August, the gathering marked the long-awaited revival of our young alumni group, this time spearheaded by the newly appointed Young Univ Ambassadors.

The Astronomer proved an inspired choice of venue. Its eclectic, space-themed décor meant the pub’s name made far more sense once I had seen it. Conversation was soon flowing easily and the private basement gave us ample space to mingle, without losing the intimate atmosphere.

Turnout was especially strong among the 2020 matriculation year, who certainly made the most of the drink selection on offer. Attendees praised the chance to reconnect face to face with friends, mostly reminiscing about College life; although the occasional story from outside of Oxford did slip into conversation. One particular highlight was the Young Univ pin badges, which quickly gained popularity and were worn by almost all in the room.

It was wonderful to welcome everyone back to a Young Univ gathering after an extended hiatus, and planning is already underway for the next events, where we’re hoping for an even bigger turnout.
