Neel Mukherjee at Univ
All members of the College were invited to an evening at Univ with critically-acclaimed, award-winning novelist Neel Mukherjee FRSL (1992, English Language and Literature) on 21 February 2025. He was interviewed by Professor Joe Moshenska, Beaverbrook and Bouverie Tutorial Fellow in English.
Neel offered insights into his time at Univ and how it has shaped his career, the process of plot formation, traditional v avant-garde structure, a few glimpses into his future writing, and one or two regrets – a lively and fascinating discussion.

It was also remarkable that all of his English classmates from 1991 turned up to support him on the night – testament to the strong bonds forged at Univ!
“It was fascinating to see Neel three decades on from when we all first met him: that fizzy ball of energy had turned into a prize-winning novelist and garlanded academic – plus he still had just the same irreverence to call ‘b******t’ on quite a few sacred cows, which made for a riveting talk.”
Helen Rumbelow (1991, English), Feature Writer at The Times
