Univ Old Members and friends are invited to a private view of Daisy Harcourt’s solo exhibition of portraits honouring women writers, Women and Word. The exhibition features drawn portraits of a diverse group of contemporary journalists, poets and authors, plus notable female literary characters. Set alongside each portrait is a written submission from each sitter, discussing their relationship to reading, writing and language.

The event will explore connections between art and the written word, creativity in practice, inspiration and influences. There will be time for questions from the audience and to browse the exhibition and gallery shop.

Town House Spitalfields has been a gallery, shop and coffee shop in Fournier Street since 2002, but the building itself dates from 1721 and formerly housed Huguenot weavers. The writer-philosopher Mary Wollstonecraft, mother of writer Mary Shelley, was born a few streets away in 1759, and was a central inspiration to Daisy when working on the Women and Word project.

Due to the historic nature of the building, access to the gallery is by steps and access to the meeting room is by stairs. If you would like to attend and have mobility issues, please contact the Univ office to discuss via rsvp@univ.ox.ac.uk.

£30 (£20 for Young Univ)
Drinks and nibbles are included in the ticket price.
