George Cawkwell of Oxford Book Launch
Friday 1 November 2019 – 5.30pm
The Alington Room, University College Oxford
Please join us for a Reception and Book Launch for George Cawkwell of Oxford.
George Cawkwell of Oxford, a collection of reminiscences of George by his colleagues, friends and family, edited by Professor Rajiva Wijesinha (1971, Classics), was originally conceived as a present to George for his 100th birthday. Though George did not quite make it to 25 October 2019, we have chosen a date as close as possible to this, to mark what would have been an important occasion in the College’s calendar. We hope you will join us for this launch and celebration.
We will also be making an appeal for a College fund which was close to George’s heart: the Cawkwell Teaching Fund in Classical Languages. This fund ensures that Univ classicists are given the specialist teaching in Latin and Greek that they require. The fund has been in existence for some time, but will run out in in the next few years without additional funding. We hope to be able to endow the fund in perpetuity.

The reception is free of charge.
Following the ceception, guests are also invited to join us for a celebratory dinner in Hall at 7pm. Tickets for the Dinner, priced at £50
