Sir Andrew McFadyean, later civil servant and Liberal party politician, was at University College in 1905 to 1909. He wrote an autobiography "Recollected in Tranquillity", published in 1964, which includes some memories of his undergraduate years.
This account book was given to the College in 1990.

Account Book kept by Sir Andrew McFadyean whilst an undergraduate at University College. In it, he kept note of everything on which he spent money, from his books, to food and drink, to tips for college servants, cab fares and hair cuts. It is unique among records of the College in showing in so much detail how an undergraduate of this period chose to spend his money.
