"I have met so many wonderful friends and inspirational people...thank you very much for your generosity in helping to make this possible for me"
The Univ Australian Old Members' Scholarship for 2013/14 was awarded to Emma Lawrance, who is studying for a DPhil in Neuroscience.
Emma graduated with First Class Honours from Flinders University in 2009, winning various prizes including the Defence Science and Technology Organisation-Australian Institute of Physics Award (one of two in Australia). After completing a Graduate Diploma in Science Communication at the Australian National University in 2011, she was awarded a Clarendon Scholarship to study for her MSc in Neuroscience at Oxford. In 2013, she was awarded a further three year Clarendon Scholarship in conjunction with the Univ Australian Old Members Scholarship, to extend her research into a DPhil.
When asked about her Oxford experience so far, and what she is looking forward to next, Emma said:
'I have been overwhelmed by the abundance of opportunities to engage in interesting activities with people from all around the world, both in and out of the classroom. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the incredible breadth of current neuroscientific thought from world experts in their fields, and have been involved in two research projects, including my current one in auditory neuroscience.
I have also enjoyed listening to many public lectures and specialist seminars, trying my hand (and legs!) at rowing, playing netball with the Australia and New Zealand society, attending events for ‘Giving What We Can’ and participating in MCR activities. I have met so many wonderful friends and inspirational people from around the world. I look forward to continuing this in the next three years, and being involved in college life at Univ.
Thank you very much for your generosity in helping to make this possible for me, it is much appreciated.'
