Meeting the Costs of Study

Below is a list of costs which potential students have to bear in mind. The figures should be used as a guideline only, since they are applicable for the 2009-10 academic year, and are likely to increase slightly from year to year.

University Composition Fee: £3,225 per year for Home / EU students; depends on subject for overseas students

Home or EU students who are eligible for public funding (by their Local Authority or equivalent body), can take out an interest-free loan to pay the University Composition Fee. You will only have to repay this loan once you have graduated and are earning a salary.

Undergraduate College Fee: £5,473 per year for non-Home and non-EU students only

Home and EU students who are eligible for public funding (by their Local Authority or equivalent body) do not have to pay the College Fee.

Living Costs: around £6,600 for the academic year (October-June)

The government offers grants and loans to help students with their living expenses. Please consult the Student Finance webpages and the University’s admissions website.

In addition to government funding, Home students who are eligible for a grant from their Local Authority or equivalent body also receive the means-tested Oxford Opportunity Bursaries. The maximum value of an Oxford Opportunity Bursary is £4,100 in the first year and £3,225 per year thereafter.

University College has an additional scheme, the Old Members’ Trust Bursary Scheme, which provides extra funding for undergraduate students at Univ.
