The College has a long and distinguished chemical tradition and first appointed separate Fellows in each of the three major branches of the subject thirty years ago. Since then Univ has regularly admitted more Chemistry undergraduates than any other college and the Chemistry ‘School’ is thus a major presence in the College. Univ also has a large and internationally diverse graduate school in Chemistry.

The ideal school background for an undergraduate degree in Chemistry is to have taken A-levels in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. However, we regularly accept applicants who offer Biology in place of Physics and we occasionally consider otherwise outstanding applicants who have not studied Mathematics beyond AS-level standard or who have Chemistry, Mathematics and a non-science A-level.
